About Emergency Medical Technician

Meet Jonathan Pinto, MPSLA, Paramedic, EMT Program Director, at the Institute of Healthcare, Inc. in Oceanside. Jonathan tells us all about his role as a founder, owner, and trainer at his school that trains anyone interested in expanding their medical knowledge for the benefit of their family, friends and community as well as caregivers, forest service staff, law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders including many in our own Oceanside Fire Department. “Seconds count in our profession,” he says. Learn more about being an EMT, a paramedic, an EMT trainer for the Oceanside Fire Department and anyone who wants to learn, and even an entrepreneur at the Institute of Healthcare, Inc. An EMT responds to medical emergencies; renders aid to injured parties; assists at non-medical emergency scenes with support related activities; operates ambulances and other related medical equipment; and diagnoses medical problems and performs first-aid and resuscitator functions. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the demand for EMTs is expected to increase by 11 percent a year from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations. Due to this increasing demand for EMTs within the County of San Diego and the State of California, the Institute of Healthcare, Inc. has expanded its EMT Training program with a Hybrid EMT program for students interested in meeting the basic prerequisites. For more information on training, internships and apprenticeships, and campus tours, visit their website. Jonathan’s story is sponsored by the City of Oceanside.
